Qualifying activities

Qualifying activities comprise the like-for-like renewal of facilities and infrastructure associated with the delivery of public transport services.

Work category 534 is available to the public transport infrastructure activity class.

Public transport services and infrastructure

Examples of qualifying activities

Examples of qualifying activities include, but may not be limited to the like-for-like renewal of:

  • stations, interchanges or terminals, shelters and ferry berthing facilities and associated equipment
  • car and bus parking facilities for the above
  • safety and security installation and upgrades at facilities
  • signalling for the efficient operation of services
  • park and ride infrastructure, including cycle storage at facilities
  • pedestrian and cycle access to bus facilities
  • replacement of customer-facing technology associated within a facility renewal – this is part of the facility renewal cost
  • vehicles or vessels and supporting infrastructure such as depot, berthing or maintenance facilities owned by the approved organisation
  • loan (principal and interest) repayments agreed by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

Like for like is defined as providing for a modern replacement built to current design standards appropriate for the network that is to be serviced over the life of the new replacement facility or infrastructure.
