Introduction

Work category 562 provides for the capital cost of all new or improved ferry facilities and infrastructure for ferry services identified in a regional public transport plan (RPTP).

Qualifying activities

Work category 562 is available to the public transport infrastructure activity class.

Public transport services and infrastructure

Examples of qualifying activities

Examples of qualifying activities include, but may not be limited to:

  • signage, timetable or screen display installation or upgrade at ferry facilities
  • minor new asset purchases for ferry facilities (for example rubbish bins, canopies, seating, etc)
  • roof, canopy, guttering or lighting upgrades at ferry facilities
  • park and ride infrastructure, including cycle storage facilities for ferry facilities
  • pedestrian and cycle access to ferry facilities
  • safety and security installation and upgrades
  • new vessel and supporting infrastructure such as berthing and maintenance facilities owned by the approved organisation
  • property purchase (refer to further information below) for public transport enabling assets and infrastructure, including berthing, workforce and other support facilities owned by the approved organisation
  • loan (principal and interest) repayments agreed by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA)
  • construction of new or significant upgrades to passenger ferry berthing facilities.

You can discuss with us (NZTA as investor) whether other potential activities not listed above might also be eligible for inclusion in this work category.

Exclusions

Work category 562 excludes:

  • vehicles, supporting infrastructure, facilities and other assets not owned by an approved organisation, unless there is an executed agreement on its public use and charges for use
  • infrastructure provision for public transport services not identified in a RPTP

Property purchase

Work category 562 provides for funding of property purchases for public transport infrastructure improvements. The principles and conditions set out in the relevant work category below apply to property purchases for this work category:

Where the property purchase cost for a project exceeds $500,000, a property phase must be set up in Transport Investment Online (TIO). Where the property cost is up to $500,000, the cost may be included in the construction/implementation phase.
