Introduction

Work category 512 provides for the operation of ferry services that are identified in a regional public transport plan (RPTP).

Qualifying activities

Work category 512 is available to the public transport services activity class.

Examples of qualifying activities

Examples of qualifying activities include, but may not be limited to:

  • preparation and management of contracts and monitoring of ferry services
  • payments for the operation of ferry services, including:
    • scheduled, unscheduled and on-demand public transport services
    • new services, minor service variations, trial services and improvements consistent with the RPTP
    • inter-regional public transport services
  • on-vessel costs associated with provision for people with disabilities, cycles and prams
  • on-vessel installation and operational costs associated with public transport technology, where included as part of the service contract
  • the management costs and overheads associated with activities funded under this work category.

You can discuss with us (Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency as investor) whether other potential activities not listed above might also be eligible for inclusion in this work category.

Exclusions

Work category 512 excludes:

  • costs associated with the development or operations of public transport technology external to the vessel itself
  • the planning and design of ferry services forming part of the preparation of a RPTP – this is funded through work category 003
    Work category 003: activity management planning improvement
  • routine updates to the RPTP or other public transport planning documents, where public consultation is not required
  • updating asset information in an RPTP or in other public transport planning documents
  • updating statistical records or forecasts in an RPTP or in other public transport planning documents.
