We’re installing a new, larger drinking water supply across SH6 Frankton-Ladies Mile Highway. The roundabout, Joe O’Connell Drive and Hansen Road remain open at all times.

Gray Street rebuild and night works

Monday 4 November to Friday 20 December 2024

We are completing day and night works in Gray Street and around the corner of Gray and McBride Street. This work connects the upgraded water main that links back to SH6/Ladies Mile.

Above ground works are also on the go as we start to rebuild kerbs, footpaths and the road, as well as new street lighting.

Excavation of stormwater upgrade to Gray and McBride intersection

Monday 7 October 2024 for four weeks

We are ahead of schedule to start work on the Gray and McBride intersection stormwater upgrade.

These connections link the underground pipes that transport stormwater away from built up areas for treatment.

    McBride-Ross Streets excavation for utilities works notice

    Sunday 1 - Thursday 5 September, and Monday 9 - Friday 27 September 2024

    In August we have re-aligned and deepened the trenches of many services, moving them out of the way of future road construction. This work has been done at night to minimise disruption to traffic.

    A major new cable that starts at the Aurora electricity substation on SH6 Ladies Mile, runs along the sports fields, connects to the Queenstown Events Centre and Queenstown Airport, and finally links to a main cable in the intersection of Ross and McBride Street.     14 October - end October 2024

    Trenching to underground the stormwater starts mid-October. This works notice outlines the full closure of the Gray and McBride Street intersection. Gray Street from SH6 Kawarau Road is open and McBride Street from SH6A is also open.

    Trenching work notice

    10pm – 6am, Sunday 11 August to mid-September 2024

    SH6 Kawarau Road, SH6 Frankton-Ladies Mile Highway, and SH6A Frankton Road, near BP Roundabout.

    We are beginning trenching works to strengthen the power supply to Queenstown Events Centre, Queenstown Airport and surrounding neighbourhoods. The works will also prepare for undergrounding power lines. By strengthening the water, gas and Chorus Broadband from Five Mile and beyond we are increasing capacity to unlock future growth in Queenstown.

    Gray Street works

    Kā Huanui a Tāhuna is delivering improvements to State Highway 6 and 6A (SH6/6A) to support an efficient and reliable transport network.

    As part of this work, power, gas, fibre and stormwater pipes are being moved out from underneath the State Highway 6/6A intersection and into Gray and McBride Streets, and then the Gray-McBride intersection is being completely rebuilt.
