Formal consultation in 2019
During November and December 2019 we asked the public for feedback on proposed new speed limits along SH10 between Awanui and Kaingaroa.
Submitters raised concerns about the potential for poor levels of compliance with a 60km/h speed limit. We also heard concerns from the local community that because of the lack of visible houses and driveways along the road between Mahimaru marae and Kareponia marae, drivers may be unaware they are passing through an area where there could be a high number of vehicle movements and pedestrians.
Formal consultation in 2020
A second public consultation took place during November and December 2020. It included proposed new speed limits for a shorter length of State Highway 10, between Awanui and Pukewhai Road.
82 submissions were received during the consultation period from stakeholder organisations and the public.
Community engagement since 2020
Since the consultation in 2020, we have been working closely with iwi and hapū partners and the local community to develop the final safety improvements for Mahimaru marae and Kareponia marae.
