With 9 crashes between 2019 and 2023, the Duke Street/SH1 Cumberland Street south has been identified as a safety concern. We are proposing to address this by only allowing left turns out of the intersection on to SH1 south and remove straight through vehicle movements across the highway - the main cause of crashes at this site. We sought feedback on this proposed change.

NZTA has opened new speed reviews on several sections of state highway that are categorised as urban connectors, after community feedback that people would like to keep lower speeds in these locations. Under the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2024 (the Rule), these sections are required to automatically reverse to their previous higher speed limit by 1 July 2025. These new speed reviews are proposing to change back to the lower speeds just after 1 July 2025.

NZTA is proposing a new bus priority lane on State Highway 1 Silverdale (northbound), north of Auckland, to improve travel times and reliability for bus users. The new lane will serve as a wider emergency stopping lane and operate as a bus priority lane from 3pm–7pm, Monday to Friday. This requires an amendment to the Traffic Controls on State Highways Bylaw 2017-14.

We’re making amendments to the geotechnical sections of the NZTA Bridge Manual. The aim is to keep the geotechnical standards up to date and provide clarification to the design standards. The amendments are mostly on chapter 6: Site stability, foundations, earthworks and retaining walls. At this stage we only sought feedback from the geotechnical community (NZGS).

The Minister of Transport is proposing changes to the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Standards Compliance 2002 (the Rule) and we’d like to know what you think about them. The changes would reduce the frequency of warrant of fitness (WoF) checks on vintage and veteran vehicles and certificate of fitness checks (CoF) on privately owned heavy motorhomes.
