To obtain the relevant statutory approvals for the project , the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and Queenstown Lakes District Council went through a formal process as set out by the Resource Management Act 1991. This process is now largely complete. This involved submitting a planning application (known as a Notice of Requirement) to designate additional land for the highway and the expanded bus hub.
The state highway and Bus Hub Notices of Requirement were lodged in November 2022. They have been through a publicly notified process, including a formal hearing process mid 2023, with the appeal period concluding in December 2023.
