Port Marsden Highway to Whangārei is a Road of National Significance (RoNS). It is section 3 of the Northland Corridor, a 100-kilometre strategic route connecting Auckland to Whangārei. It will be a 4-lane, mainly grade separated highway made up of two sections.
October 2024
Port Marsden Highway to Whangārei is stage 3 of the Northland Corridor, 1 of the 3 Roads of National Significance (RoNS) that will improve connections from Auckland to Whangārei. The Northland Corridor will support economic growth and productivity, reduce congestion, improve safety, support housing development, and provide a more resilient roading network.
Working south to north, NZ Transport Agency will design and construct three projects spanning 100km between Warkworth to Te Hana, Te Hana to Port Marsden and Port Marsden to Whangārei. RoNS are four lane grade separated roads which will be considered for tolling to ensure they can be delivered over the next decade and beyond.
Property impacts and a route has not been established for Port Marsden to Whangārei, although we will be taking into account work already done in the corridor over previous years.
We’ll be out and about in Northland over the summer, updating people on the project. We will be sharing more information about this in our Northland Corridor newsletter.
