Are you planning to install an electric vehicle (EV) charger? Discover guidance for public, residential, or commercial EV charging infrastructure below.

Public EV chargers

We worked closely with local and central government agencies, power companies, technology providers and the motor industry to develop and publish this guidance on public charging infrastructure for EVs.

It is primarily for organisations setting up public charging infrastructure so that as many drivers as possible can use the public network. The information may also be useful for organisations setting up restricted infrastructure.

National guidance for public EV chargers

Residential EV chargers

Most EV drivers charge their vehicles at home. This publicly available standard from Standards New Zealand (SNZ) provides best practice advice on the charging and installation of EV chargers on residential premises.

Commercial EV chargers

This publicly available standard – also from SNZ – provides best practice advice on the charging and installation of commercial or restricted EV chargers.
