Introduction

This is the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) policy on the location and relocation of services.

Date of issue: Updated September 2023 | NZTA may review and amend investment policies at any time, including in response to any changes in the Government Policy Statement on land transport.

Purpose

To set out the eligibility for funding assistance from the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF) for costs associated with relocating assets of utility operators (services).

Policy statement

The approved organisation’s or NZTA (for its own activities) share of the cost of relocating services is eligible for funding assistance. This must either be included in the request for funding approval within the scope of a project or be an activity within the relevant activity class and work category. The service authority’s share of the costs is to be treated as supplementary funding and shared between the approved organisation, if applicable, and NZTA (for its own activities).

Code of practice

The respective responsibilities, including responsibility for costs of road controlling authorities (approved organisations and NZTA (for its own activities)) and service authorities for service location and relocation are set out in the sector’s National code of practice for utility operators' access to transport corridors.
