Introduction

Work category 323 provides for the construction of a new road or road link that is additional to the existing road network, including any associated road structures.

Qualifying activities

Work category 323 is available to the following activity classes:

  • local road improvements
  • state highway improvements.

Local road and state highway improvements

Examples of qualifying activities

Examples of qualifying activities include, but may not be limited to:

  • construction of a new road, including the earthworks and pavement construction required to establish the new road
  • a bridge that forms part of a new road or road link
  • retaining structures that form part of a new road
  • stock underpasses
  • discharge of street water by means of pipes or open drains into natural watercourses, where no artificial drainage system exists, or into artificial drainage systems (sumps, mains or open drains) on, adjacent to or across the road
  • all traffic signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, lighting, etc, necessary to bring the new facility into service
  • appropriate safe system infrastructure for the road type and speed environment of the road
  • property purchase costs less than $500,000 for local road or state highway projects.

You can discuss with us (NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) as investor) whether other potential activities not listed above might also be eligible for inclusion in this work category.

Exclusions

Work category 323 excludes:

  • work category 561: public transport passenger facilities and infrastructure improvements - bus
  • a new cattle stop where none previously existed.

Funding assistance rate

The usual funding assistance rate (FAR) is:

  • 100% of the NZTA state highway costs.

Submitting activities for NLTP consideration and funding approval

Approved and organisations and NZTA (for its own activities) submit these activities using the improvement activity template in Transport Investment Online (TIO).
