To seek Board funding approval to implement safety and capacity improvements on SH2 Pokeno to Mangatarata.

The NZ Transport Agency Board approved funding for implementation of the SH2 Pokeno to Mangatarata improvements programme at an estimated cost of $278 million, from the Regional Improvements activity class over the next 11 years, to be spread across the 2015-2030 NLTPs.
The NZ Transport Agency’s SH2 Pokeno to Mangatarata improvements programme connects economic areas where there is a mix of freight, commuter and tourist traffic.
The improvements will reduce head-on, loss of control and rear end crashes along the corridor and improve community connectivity. It will also improve journey time predictability for customers who currently experience excessive delays at peak (weekends and public holidays). Included is future-proofing for longer term capacity improvements when demand warrants further investment.
The assessment profile for this activity has been determined as being of high strategic fit, medium effectiveness and has a cost and benefit appraisal of 1.3.appraisal of 3.3.
