Each year we undertake an annual survey of Māori partners to:
- better understand what Māori are looking for from their relationships with us
- identify how we’re currently performing in the eyes of Māori
- determine the areas we need to focus to improve our relationships.
Maarama Consulting undertook the 2023 survey on our behalf.
The results showed that overall, Māori feel both our relationships are moving in a positive direction. The average performance score of key strategic relationships drivers of Māori partnerships (our Statement of Performance measure) was 49 percent, meeting the requirement for an increase over the 2022 result of 45 percent. Other key results were:
- 64 percent of Māori hold positive perceptions of us in general
- 57 percent see us moving in a positive direction as an organisation
- 71 percent reported their relationships with us had improved over time
- 60 percent were feeling optimistic about the future of their relationship with us.
Areas for further improvement include:
- driving improvements across our 7 key strategic relationship drivers, such as, seeing Māori as an equal partner, delivering effective outcomes for Māori, providing sufficient time, funding and resource, take Māori expertise into account and understand and meet needs of Māori
- taking a partnership approach to our relationship with Māori
- increasing the levels of cultural competence and understanding
- driving consistency across the relationship factors and all relationships with Māori.
