Motor vehicle licence fees (rego) include:
Paying ACC levies if you own or drive a vehicle(external link)
If your vehicle operates under a transport service licence (TSL) - for example a passenger or goods service licence - you'll also pay a TSL fee.
The following tables have the most common licensing (rego) fees. They include the online administration fee and GST.
The fee you pay depends on the start date of your new licence. If your new licence starts from 1 January 2025 or after, you'll pay the new fees. Check your licence label: your new licence will start the day after the expiry date on your current licence (or the day after your current exemption ends).

The Annual licence fee portion of the licence (rego) fee hasn’t increased since 1994, although the ACC and other fee portions of the overall cost have varied over the years.
In May 2024 the Government decided to increase rates to what they would be (more or less) if adjusted for inflation since 1994.
Most of the funding collected from fees goes into the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF). Other amounts go to ACC, an administration fee, and GST.
The Government intends for the same fee increases to happen again in January 2026.
