Practice notes for chipsealing in NZ
Each year, between October and March, we survey the condition of our highways. We do this using a specialist vehicle called SCRIM+ (Sideway-force Coefficient Routine Investigation Machine). SCRIM+ collects data on a range of condition aspects, which allows us to respond to any arising maintenance issues and helps ensure road users continue to travel safely.

This report identifies possible methods and constraints on the use of waste tyre rubber in asphalt in New Zealand. There are two main methods: Wet process - ground tyre rubber (GTR) is first combined with the asphalt binder and can produce asphalt with superior properties; and Dry process - the GTR is used to replace a fraction of the aggregate and does not appear to offer any performance enhancement.
