This report identifies possible methods and constraints on the use of waste tyre rubber in asphalt in New Zealand. There are two main methods: Wet process - ground tyre rubber (GTR) is first combined with the asphalt binder and can produce asphalt with superior properties; and dry process – the GTR is used to replace a fraction of the aggregate and does not appear to offer any performance enhancement.
