A survey report showing public attitudes to road safety issues and behaviours to help decision makers understand public feedback.
Previously published annually, the survey report is produced quarterly as of 2024.
New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi has published the findings of a comprehensive survey into New Zealanders’ attitudes toward road safety issues and behaviours, and how these are trending over time.
The Public Attitudes to Road Safety first quarterly 2024 survey prepared with Verian, details the results of responses provided by 1,806 New Zealanders to a broad range of questions focussed on specific road safety topics, including attitudes to enforcement, speed, vehicle safety, impaired driving, distraction, driver fatigue and safety cameras.
The survey has been undertaken periodically since 1974 and annually since 1994, with the then Land Transport Safety Authority continuing the survey till 2004. From 2005 to 2016, the Ministry of Transport carried out the survey before being picked by by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
After previously been published annually, the survey is now quarterly with results of the April to June 2024 quarter recently released. Last year’s figures are included in the report as a comparison with the January-March 2024 quarter.
