Te Aranui o Te Rangihaeata – the Transmission Gully motorway connects with the existing State Highway 1 just north of the Mackays Crossing interchange.
This interchange has on and off-ramps in both directions, and is the main access to attractions such as Queen Elizabeth Park.
Northbound motorists on the Transmission Gully motorway (e.g. those coming from Wellington) will need to use this interchange if they are travelling to Paekākāriki, or further around the coastal State Highway 59 route.
Once you come off the motorway at this exit, you’ll need to travel south either on the Transmission Gully motorway coming off at Paekākāriki or via the SH59 extension.
Motorists travelling from Kāpiti to Paekākāriki, Pukerua Bay or Plimmerton should take the Paekākāriki southbound off-ramp to access the SH59 coastal route.
This animated video shows the Transmission Gully motorway route from Mackays Crossing to the Paekākāriki Interchange, and through towards the Wainui Saddle.
