As a key subcontractor to Wellington Gateway Partnership (WGP), Ventia is proud to be providing Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services for the new Transmission Gully motorway, for the 25 years following build completion in 2020.

Key operational and maintenance, and asset management services being provided by Ventia for the Transmission Gully motorway include:

  • Incident responses: In coordination with the the NZ Transport Agency’s Wellington Traffic Operations Centre (WTOC), Ventia will respond to traffic related incidents such as breakdowns, motor vehicle crashes and will support emergency services as required during larger scale incidents and events.
  • Traffic monitoring and control: Ventia will have 24/7 response capabilities and will attend to incidents to ensure the safety of road users is maintained, and travel delays are minimised.
  • Traffic systems data monitoring and collection: Ventia will collect and store data to be used to monitor and measure how the new motorway is performing. This data will be used to enable continuous improvement in the way Ventia will manage and maintain the motorway and optimise traffic flow.
  • Responsive, preventative and lifecycle maintenance: Collected data will be analysed and used to monitor the condition of the motorway and enable Ventia to remediate any defects that might arise over the 25 year term.
  • Asset and environmental management: Ventia will monitor and maintain the surrounding environment, including natural watercourse and resident fish species and storm water, to ensure that sediment, hydrocarbons and heavy metals do not exceed acceptable levels in these sensitive watercourses and the downstream receiving environments, including the sensitive Pauatahanui Inlet.
  • Regular asset inspection: Ventia will monitor safety and the condition of the new motorway and related assets on a regular basis.

Complementing the Transport Agency’s asset management capability, Ventia’s dedicated, site-based asset management team will work closely with WGP and the Transport Agency to ensure assets are managed effectively and efficiently with minimal disruption to the end-users.

Ventia’s O&M Representative, Graeme Anderson says the O&M project team has become well established at the Lanes Flat site office, and are preparing for the dynamic operational phase.

“The team are currently focused on operational readiness, and we’re preparing a range of operative documents, which define how our O&M services are to be provided. Early in 2020, our focus will turn to physical readiness and defining the range of personnel, plant, processes and other resources that are required to ensure Ventia is ready to deliver as soon as the Transmission Gully motorway opens to the public,” says Graeme.
