In the previous newsletter, the builder signalled upcoming work planned to extend State Highway (SH59) from Paekākāriki and Mackays Crossing. This work is now underway and has a target completion date of mid-November 2023.
The new section of SH59 will provide a safer route for cyclists and include a shared-use path that will provide a connection for cyclists to Queen Elizabeth Park and Whareroa Farm. It will run parallel with the motorway and form a key connection for the local community.
The construction of the new road will be visible from the motorway, and road users will also see extensive works on Whareroa Road from 18 September. Traffic management changes and some detours for local traffic will be in place. This work will ensure that traffic flows through this intersection smoothly once the new part of SH59 opens.
There is also work on and around the Paekākāriki interchange to do final asphalt layers near the on and off-ramps and where the SH59 extension intersection is.

Final surfacing work on State Highway 58 near Bradey Road, will be happening over the coming months as the temperatures increase.
Finally, most of this year’s planting season is now complete, with some planting maintenance ongoing. The public tracks in Belmont Regional Park have also been reopened to the public.
