Be ready for State Highway 59 roadworks: Paekākāriki and Mackays Crossing

Kāpiti Coast drivers need to be ready for roadworks at the northern end of State Highway 59 this month.

They are part of stage two works for Te Aranui o Te Rangihaeata – the Transmission Gully motorway project.

Contractors will be carrying out final road surfacing works at a number of locations around Paekākāriki and Mackays Crossing.

Drivers can expect to see roadworks/traffic management from 7 May until the end of the month.

Works location and timing

• Whareroa Road roundabout and intersections around Mackays Crossing on/off-ramps. 7 May to 31 May.
• SH59 intersection traffic islands north of Paekākāriki. 13 May to 16 May. (Stage 1)
• SH59 to SH1 northbound on-ramp surfacing. 20 May to 25 May. (Stage 2)
• These dates are dependent on weather and other factors and could be subject to change.

Finishing work will also occur on the State Highway 59 extension between the Paekākāriki and Mackays Crossing interchanges, before this part of the highway reopens on 17 May.

Regular users of this route must plan ahead and factor in extra travel time, as the work will create some travel delays. Drivers must obey temporary speed limits and follow directions from road workers to ensure everyone is kept safe.

We want to thank the public for their patience as this work on Te Aranui o Te Rangihaeata –  Transmission Gully continues. It is essential for connecting the new and existing state highway networks.
