This month we have a chat with members of the team who’ve been building the Peka Peka Interchange, who share their journey and challenges so far.
Where to drive on the temporary SH1 northbound re route through Peka Peka – October 2016
A drive-through of the first part of a new SH1 route north of Waikanae and south of Te Horo. This shows the connection with the existing State Highway 1 heading north over a new bridge over the future Expressway route, driving through to the top of Peka Peka Road. The new route is temporary and will be in place from 19 October until the new Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway opens.

As we get closer to the Expressway opening, it’s important that everyone knows gets to know how the interchanges will work and how to use them safely. So here’s an overview of how you’ll use the Poplar Avenue Partial Interchange once the Expressway opens.
Note: The Poplar Avenue Interchange won’t be operational until the Expressway opens, so in the meantime, please use local roads as you normally would, and take care around construction.
