Project Introduction

The Transport Recovery East Coast (TREC) Alliance is working to restore State Highway 2 through Otoko Hill. Nine projects will improve the stabilisation of the surrounding hillsides and drainage. A further seven sites are planned between Gisborne and the Bay of Plenty boundary.

About the project

Otoko Hill is an area on Gisborne’s State Highway 2 north that was severely damaged in Cyclone Gabrielle.

There are multiple sites that require repair work including under and overslips as well as guard rail, pavement and retaining wall repairs.

Work will take place between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and traffic lights or stop/go will be operating through the sites 24/7. Weekend work may also be undertaken.
