The Ngā Ūranga ki Pito-One section of Te Ara Tupua will be a gamechanger. It'll create a safe coastal path for walking, cycling and scootering between Wellington and Hutt Valley and provide much-needed protection against the elements for the road and rail running alongside it. Construction of this transformational project is now underway with the installation of pods on Honiana Te Puni Reserve at Petone. These Tāwharau pods will be used as an information centre, and as space to create project artworks. Tāwharau means shelter or protection, symbolising the protection provided to workers and visitors who’ll use the pods.
