[Text] Construction of the Petone to Melling section of Te Ara Tupua has begun |

Julie Anne Genter, Associate Minister of Transport |
[Julie Anne Genter MP] This project?s really important because it?s?going to create a safe separated path that people can use for walking, cycling, scooting, anywhere?they want to get around under their own steam all the way from the Hutt eventually right?into Wellington City. |
00:00:23 |
Craig Service, Project Manager, Fulton Hogan |
[Craig Service] This is probably one of the more iconic projects I?ve come on in the last five years we?ve seen cycleways become more apparent and this is obviously dedicated cycleway. |
00:00:31 |
|
[Julie Ann Genter MP] This?particular section takes us from Melling to Petone and then we'll be working on the Petone?to Ngauranga section. |
00:00:38 |
Reece Foster, Project Manager, Waka Kotahi |
[Reece Foster] We estimate this project is going to take 18 months starting from its?construction at the moment. |
00:00:41 |
|
[Craig Service] On one side we have state highway, on the other side we have KiwiRail?land and a rail corridor which makes it logistically quite hard. |
00:00:48 |
|
[Reece Foster] It?ll involve two underpasses, one?at Normandale and another one at Petone Station plus a lot of work between the KiwiRail line and?State Highway 2 connecting the two stations. |
00:00:58 |
|
[Craig Service] A lot of people involved in the planning and that. We have a certain tight time frame to get those underpasses in place, generally six to ten?days with a lot of activities happening at once. |
00:01:09 |
|
[Reece Foster] This is a great example of our partnerships with?local Iwi with Hutt City Council and the local community, on how we can get a project?that benefit the whole community. |
