The new SH7 Ahaura Bridge near Greymouth was officially blessed and opened on Saturday 13 June with Ngāti Waewae, Grey District Mayor, Awahono School pupils and the wider community.
The new two-lane band bridge replaces one of the last single-lane bridges on State Highway 7. It provides improved journey travel times and safety including pedestrian and cyclist access.
April 2021
We’re almost there. The staging bridge structure used to build the new bridge has been removed. Construction work on SH7 in Ahaura township shows new kerbs and channelling ready and work underway preparing for pavement laying.

December 2020
The latest drone footage is showing two lanes now open on the approaches up to the old bridge, ready for holiday traffic. All of the bridge piles are in place and landscaping and planting is underway. (The work site will shut down on Wednesday 23 December 2020 and reopen Tuesday 5 January 2021).
November 2020
Check out our latest drone footage from the West Coast – the new Ahaura River Bridge is taking shape from the northside of the river. Most of the bridge columns (foundations) are now in place. Both approaches to the new bridge – especially the southern approach – are well underway.
