A bridge to build a bridge. The construction bridge crossing the Wairoa Awa (River) was completed late 2022, a fantastic milestone enabling the team to cart materials across site, and build the new Wairoa River Overbridge.
This temporary bridge was previously used in Māngere during the construction of Ngā Hau Māngere, the new walking and cycling connection across the Manukau Harbour. The navigation span was increased to 11.9 metres, to allow for rowers and other river users to easily pass through for the duration of the bridge construction.
Piling for the permanent bridge is in progress and due to complete mid-2023. This is one of eight bridges to be built across the Takitimu North Link project.
