In April 2019 under section 61(3) of the Government Roading Powers Act 1989 and section 22AD of the Land Transport Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency proposed to amend the Traffic Controls on State Highways Bylaw 2017.
The proposed bylaw amendment intended to prohibit a vehicle turning to the right from Tarewa Road into State Highway 1 at the intersection of these two roads in Whangārei.
Removing right turns onto the State highway from Tarewa Road will improve efficiency and safety for all road users including pedestrians and cyclists at this intersection.
