Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has set permanent new speed limits on State Highway 6 (SH6) Hope to Wakefield in the Tasman region.
We are making safety improvements to SH6 between Woodbourne and Springlands. As part of this project, we will be installing a roundabout at the Saint Leonards Road and Bells Road intersection. We are also planning on installing a second roundabout at Tancred Crescent and SH6 intersection.

We’re making some changes at the Racecourse Road intersection with SH73 Yaldhurst Road.
These speed limits were set on SH73 and SH75 from Christchurch to Akaroa, some local side roads, and on SH74 at Norwich Quay/Gladstone Quay, Lyttelton in September 2022. In 2025, speeds on some sections of state highway that were lowered will reverse to their previous higher speed limits.
Together with improved bus journey times and reliability, and more travel choices along SH75 Halswell Road between Dunbars and Curletts Roads, our project will improve safety for everyone travelling this stretch of road, support growth in the area and contribute to a more resilient roading network.
