Update on East West Link

March 2019

The East West Link is one of a number of projects currently being reviewed, to evaluate whether they align with the new priorities and strategic direction set out by the Government Policy Statement on land transport. This re-evaluation is part of the Transport Agency’s overall work to take a fresh look at transport investments across the country. The outcome of the re-evaluation is expected shortly and we expect to be able to make announcements about decisions on this project in the coming months.

Background

In July and August 2014 we asked people to give us feedback on their experiences with the transport network in the East West Connections programme area. The information provided was used to help us understand what was needed to make improvements to the transport network in the area. Take a look at our previous display boards.(external link)

Then in October 2014, we asked people to give us feedback on the six options developed for the Onehunga-Penrose area and bus priority between Māngere, Ōtāhuhu and Sylvia Park. The feedback, along with a range of technical assessments, was used to evaluate the options and identify a preferred approach. Take a look at our summary of feedback factsheet [PDF, 3.7 MB].

In late 2015, we confirmed the preferred route for the East West Link and progressed the design. We invited you to have your say on these latest plans in June 2016 to help shape further design work. Take a look at our summary of feedback [PDF, 1.7 MB].
