The Bay Link project will improve safety by separating local traffic from the state highway and rail corridor, provide safer walking and cycling connections, and complete the State Highway 2 Eastern Corridor for the Bay of Plenty.
Every day, approximately 38,000 vehicles travel along the Baypark to Bayfair Link on State Highway 2 in Mount Maunganui. It’s a busy route with a diverse mix of users. Construction of the project is complex and is taking place within a highly constrained environment, with challenging soil conditions, on a narrow, busy arterial corridor (1.7k in length). Bay Link is one piece of a much bigger picture when it comes to transportation and movement of people and goods throughout the Bay of Plenty.
The Bay Link project will improve safety, access and walking and cycling connections between Baypark and Bayfair.
