Introduction

Work category 224 provides for the renewal of existing cycle paths and shared path facilities, associated street lighting and traffic management equipment and facilities.

A cycle path is a path physically separated from the roadway that is principally designed for and used by cyclists.

A shared path is a path physically separated from the roadway that is intended for the passage of pedestrians, cyclists, riders of mobility devices and riders of wheeled recreation devices.

Qualifying activities

Work category 224 is available to the following activity classes:

  • local road maintenance
  • state highway maintenance.

Examples of qualifying activities

Examples of qualifying activities include, but may not be limited to the renewal of:

  • cycle path and shared paths and facilities including associated drainage, structures and bridges, provided the facilities are consistent with a relevant cycling or walking and cycling strategy or plan
  • cycle path lighting assets
  • cycle path traffic management and monitoring equipment and facilities.

Conditions for inclusion

To qualify for inclusion in this work category, the work must be the long-term, least-cost option for the approved organisation or Waka Kotahi (for its own activities), calculated in terms of present value to maintain the appropriate level of service.

Funding assistance rate

The usual funding assistance rate (FAR) is:

  • 100% of Waka Kotahi state highway costs.

Submitting activities for National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) consideration and funding approval

Approved organisations and Waka Kotahi (for its own activities) submit their cycle path and associated facility activities for NLTP consideration and funding approval using the maintenance, operation and renewals module in Transport Investment Online (TIO).
