Update: Wet weather means extra care needed on the roads in the top of the South Island

Update 14 June

The Metservice has extended weather warnings and watches for the top of the South Island.

Tasman, west of Motueka, is now under a Heavy Rain Warning, and a Heavy Rain Watch is in effect for Nelson and Marlborough, east of Blenheim. These warnings are in place until eight pm tonight (Friday).

The wet weather will affect several highways, including  State Highway 60 from Motueka to Collingwood,  State Highway 6 from Nelson to Renwick, State Highway 63 through the Wairau Valley, and State Highway 6 from Nelson to Murchison. Bad weather increases the risk of flooding, slips, and tree and rock falls.

Drivers travelling on these routes must take extra care and drive to the conditions.

Wet roads are slippery roads. Road users must watch their speed and following distances and be prepared for hazards such as flooding, slips, and tree and rock falls.

Please check road and weather conditions before you travel.
