The Waikato’s largest roading project opens for public viewing this Friday and Saturday the Waikato Expressway, Cambridge Section visitor centre is holding two community open days.
The new visitor centre at 129 Victoria Road will open to the public from 2pm until 7pm on Friday, November 8 and on Saturday 9 November, from 9.00am until 2.00pm.
The centre will display project information including the final detailed design, project DVD an animation and a live video link from the Karapiro Gully where the 220m long gully viaduct will be built over the next 18 months.
Hamilton Highways Manager, Kaye Clark says work on the 16km Cambridge section of the Expressway is starting to ramp up and the visitor centre is a great opportunity for the community to learn more about the project.
“The visitor centre is about sharing our project information, the progress of construction, and is really focused on keeping them informed and involved in the construction process. We want the community to be part of the project,” says Mrs Clark.
Following the community open days over the weekend, the visitor centre will then be open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 3.00pm.
The 16km Cambridge project is one of seven current Expressway sections either being investigated and designed, under construction or completed as part of the Waikato Expressway, Road of National Significance.
The 102km project which stretches from the Bombay Hills in the north to just south of Cambridge is one of the largest infrastructure projects underway in New Zealand.
Mrs Clark says the Expressway will support significant growth and economic development in the region and from part of the key routes between cities and ports with the Golden Triangle made up of Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga.
“We hope people will take the opportunity to visit the centre. There will be a lot to see as the project progresses and it’s a great way for the community have a front row seat to its development and hopefully learn some new information along the journey with us.”
