Work will begin this week on upgrading State Highway 39A, Te Kowhai and Limmer Roads, west of Hamilton. SH39A connects SH39 with the Te Rapa Section of the Waikato Expressway, which opened in December 2012.
The work involves bringing SH39A up to state highway standard which will also improve safety for road users travelling through this area. The NZ Transport Agency has awarded the tender for the work to the Cambridge Construction Company.
The improvements should be completed in May 2014 and once the Ngaruawahia Section of the Waikato Expressway is open, SH39A will become SH39. The current section of SH39 between Limmer Road and Ngaruawahia will revert to a local road.
“Every effort will be made to keep disruption to residents and motorists to a minimum while this work is underway,” says Waikato/Bay of Plenty Highways Manager, Kaye Clark. ”We appreciate residents’ and motorists’ patience while this important work to upgrade a key link to the Waikato Expressway is being undertaken.”
“We’d also ask that people take note of signage and traffic controls in this area while the works are underway, to ensure the safety of road users and road crews.”
