State Highway 2 resurfacing work near Clareville

The NZ Transport Agency is advising work to reseal a 2.5km section State Highway 2 near Clareville in the Wairarapa will begin next week.

Regional Transport Systems Manager Mark Owen says the work will take place over three nights from April 2nd, weather permitting.

“We will chip seal from north of Andersons Line on State Highway 2, past Hughes Line, to the start of the passing lane. Once that work is complete, new turning bays will be marked out on the road for businesses between Somerset Road and Chester Road,” Mr Owen says.

“This will improve safety for through traffic and vehicles turning in this busy area and follows the recent shoulder strengthening works.”

To minimise any disruptions to traffic, the work will take place between 7pm and 5:30am from the 2nd until the 5th of April. Temporary speed restrictions will be in place and traffic at night will be controlled via Stop/ Go.

“Night works are the quickest, most efficient way to complete the work given the high volume of traffic that uses State Highway 2 during the day,” Mr Owen says.

“Work crews understand they are operating near people’s businesses and homes and will keep noise to a minimum where possible.”
