Update: State Highway 1 Blenheim to Spring Creek closed following serious crash

State Highway 1 has reopened following yesterday’s crash.

The road was reopened to traffic shortly after one am this morning after being closed for approximately 11 and a half hours.

NZTA/Waka Kotahi thanks drivers for their patience and cooperation while emergency services and contractors attended this incident.


Wednesday 22 May, 5 pm update

State Highway 1 will remain closed between Blenheim and Spring Creek until late tonight.

The ongoing closure is required to allow Police to complete an investigation into this afternoon’s crash.

It means drivers travelling between  Blenheim and Picton must continue to detour using State Highway 62 and State Highway 6.

Drivers must allow extra time for their journeys and plan accordingly. This is particularly important for drivers with ferry connections in Picton.

Wednesday 22 May, 3:45 pm

Drivers travelling between Blenheim and Picton can expect delays this afternoon as emergency services and contractors attend a serious crash between Spring Creek and Blenheim. 

The two-vehicle crash was reported around one o’clock this afternoon. State Highway 1 is currently closed between Dodson Street and the State Highway 62 intersection at Spring Creek. 

Police confirm the Serious Crash Unit has been advised of the incident. This means the closure may be in place for some time while a crash investigation is carried out.

Road users should detour via State Highway 62 and State Highway 6 to travel between Blenheim and Picton. 

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and must expect delays between Blenheim and Picton until the highway is reopened.  

Drivers must factor this into their travel plans, especially those with ferry connections in Picton.
