The NZ Transport Agency will lower the speed limit on State Highway 73 through Springfield at the end of this month (April).
The Transport Agency’s Highway Manager Colin Knaggs says there has been significant development in the town during the last few years which means the existing 70km/h speed limit on the highway is no longer appropriate.
“A new 50km/h speed limit will be introduced from Thursday 23 April. The 50km/h will begin 180m south-east of Tramway Road and run through to 265m north-west of Pall Mall Street.”
Mr Knaggs says the Transport Agency consulted on the change which was strongly supported by stakeholders and the township committee to help improve safety through the rural township.
