State Highway 6 through Haast Pass will close again tonight (December 3) for up to six hours to enable work to be completed on the replacement of the bridge at the Diana Falls slip site and to install a new cattle stop.
The NZ Transport Agency’s Regional Performance Manager Pete Connors says good progress has been made overnight on the installation of the new bridge, with much of the work completed by the time the highway re-opened at 11am.
“Our contractors need another few hours to complete this job and install a new cattle stop a few metres north of the site.”
The highway will close at 5pm at the slip site today; the last traffic being released at Haast Township at 4pm and at Makarora at 4.30pm.
“It is hoped to complete the work and have the highway re-opened before midnight.”
He says the Transport Agency apologies for any inconvenience and thanks motorists and local residents for their continued patience as this last piece of work is completed at the site.
“Work will continue in the next two to three weeks to get the highway re-opened to two-lane traffic by Christmas.”
