UPDATE: State Highway 30, Vaughan Road – Access into Vaughan Road from SH30/Te Ngae Road will be closed from tomorrow (Tuesday 16 March) for up to three weeks to allow contractors to complete the re-alignment of the slip lane and median island at the intersection.
Alternative access into Vaughan Road is via Marino Road at the Tarawera intersection. Access out of Vaughan Road will remain open.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises multiple worksites are active on State Highway 30/Te Ngae Road, between Sala Street and Iles Road, in Rotorua next week, as part of the Eastern Corridor Stage One project.
Delays are expected at times and motorists are advised to plan for these delays and allow extra time for their journeys.
State Highway 30, Puarenga Bridge Underpass – The underpass remains closed to the public and alternative access across Te Ngae Road for pedestrians and cyclists is via the signalised pedestrian crossings at the Sala Street intersection. Detour signage and directions are in place.
The underpass is being improved, with work expected to be complete in late April.
State Highway 30, Puarenga Bridge - Work at the median on the Puarenga Bridge continues as the team prepare and construct a new, narrower median. A slight lane shift for westbound traffic is in place.
State Highway 30, Sala Street to Hamiora Place – Shoulder and/or lane closures will be in place throughout the week as construction of the shared path continues along the northern side of Te Ngae Road. Some areas of pathway are yet to be laid and the surface may be loose and uneven. People are advised to follow the footpath detour signs. Any lane closures will be outside of peak hours.
State Highway 30, Vaughan Road – Contractors continue to work at the intersection, re-aligning the slip lane and median island.
State Highway 30, Tarawera Roundabout – Contractors are working outside the Good Eastern Taphouse on both Te Ngae Road and Tarawera Road completing stormwater improvements and constructing new road layers.
A temporary lane shift for traffic entering Tarawera Road is in place until Wednesday 17 March. Due to the tightened angle of this shift, longer vehicles and combination vehicles are advised to loop around the roundabout to get onto Tarawera Road from a more direct angle. Signage is in place to advise of the shift.
State Highway 30, Allen Mills to Iles Road – Contractors continue construction of the fourth lane between Allen Mills and Iles Road and Eastbound traffic continues to use the flush median during this time. This work is scheduled to be complete by mid-April.
Temporary speed limits of 30km/h are always in place at the above work sites, including when workers are off-site.
Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to walk or cycle around all worksites. Where required, staff can assist pedestrians past the site safely. In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed.
Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.
Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
