The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has awarded a contract to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Tahuna Road and SH27, approximately 44 km north of Matamata.
HEB Construction Ltd has been awarded the construction contract for the $3M project and they are expected to set up onsite this week.
The first phase of construction will involve earthworks and preloading work to construct embankments to widen the section of SH27 adjacent to the SH27/Tahuna Road intersection. Limited construction work will then take place for approximately six months to allow the ground to settle. Construction of the roundabout will begin in earnest once the embankments have settled which is expected to be around the end of the year.
NZTA Regional Director Harry Wilson says once constructed the roundabout will improve safety at this intersection by reducing the risk of fatal and serious injury crashes.
