Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises resurfacing work will take place on State Highway 2 Hewletts Road at the Tasman Quay intersection from Tuesday 18 May.
UPDATE TUESDAY 18 MAY: This overnight work, which was due to start tonight and finish on Thursday morning, will now start Wednesday night (19 May) and finish Friday morning (21 May). All other details remain the same.
To reduce impact on motorists, work will take place overnight between 6pm and 6am on Tuesday 18 May and Wednesday 19 May (finishing Thursday morning).
Lane closures with a 50km/h temporary speed limit will be in place during the works.
Due to the complex nature and location of the site, traffic turning to/from Tasman Quay will, at times, need to continue on SH2 Hewletts Road and turn around at Sulphur Point and/or the MacDonald Street roundabout, in order to access Tasman Quay from the opposite direction. Temporary traffic management and traffic controllers on site will be in place to guide road users, as required, during these times.
Motorists are asked to take extra care when travelling through the site and follow directions of traffic management staff and signage.
These works are part of the Waka Kotahi road maintenance programme to repair and reseal state highways across the Bay of Plenty to ensure the safety and resilience of the transport network.
In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed.
