The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that State Highway 1 traffic will be detoured through Huntly for up to three hours on Sunday morning, 19 September.
The detour will be clearly signposted and will add approximately 10 minutes to normal travel times.
The detour will enable the pedestrian overbridge in Huntly to be raised.
The raising of the overbridge will allow over-dimensioned loads for the Te Uku Wind Farm to travel along SH1 next week. It will also help reduce costs for transport operators by enabling more trucks to travel under the bridge in the future, rather than being diverted around it.
A further detour will be implemented on the morning of either Sunday 26 September or Sunday 3 October to enable the bridge span to be craned back into position. The back-up date is in case strong winds prevent the crane operation or the steel fabrication is delayed.
