Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises resurfacing is planned to take place on a section of State Highway 29A between the Maungatapu and Hairini roundabouts next week.
Contractors will be on site overnight on Tuesday 28 April and Wednesday 29 April from 6pm to 6am completing resealing on the eastbound and westbound lanes between the roundabouts.
Bay of Plenty System Manager, Rob Campbell, says the work is an extension of the resealing that’s taken place at the Maungatapu roundabout this week.
“We have been resealing the Maungatapu roundabout as part of essential safety maintenance under Alert Level 4.
“In Alert Level 3, we are resuming all state highway maintenance activities, while adhering to strict health and safety protocols for the protection of workers and road users.
“This allows us to extend the resealing work up through the section of state highway leading to the Hairini roundabout. It will be great to complete this before winter sets in.”
The Hairini roundabout will be resealed after winter once the safety improvements currently under construction at the roundabout are complete.
During the works, traffic will be able to flow in both directions at all times, except at Hairini roundabout where Stop/Go traffic management will be operating. A 30km/h temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7 until works are complete.
Motorists are advised to expect delays of less than five minutes.
This work is weather dependent.
Mr Campbell says work at Alert Level 3 will not look like pre-pandemic work.
“A range of new measures will need to be in place, including restricted access to sites, requirements for workers to maintain physical distancing, and the use of additional protective clothing.
“These measures help to ensure this work can be done safely within Level 3 guidelines, to protect our people, the people in their bubbles and road users.”
He asks people to be patient and respectful to roadworkers and look out for their safety and wellbeing.
“These people are stepping outside of their bubbles to do work that keeps us safe.”
