NZTA welcomes Council's decision to join the Alliance

|

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) welcomes Kapiti Coast District Council's decision to join the Alliance to deliver the MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway, part of the Wellington Northern Corridor road of national significance.

Jenny Chetwynd, NZTA’s Regional Director Central Region said that the NZTA sees this as a positive step forward in the development of the project.

“We have confidence that the team which is assembled as the Alliance will produce the best outcome for everyone involved.

“The Alliance model we are using here is one that will meet the objectives outlined for the roads of national significance, and in particular for the Wellington Northern Corridor, while minimising and mitigating adverse impacts on the local community to a large degree,” Ms Chetwynd said.

The Council’s decision comes following months of discussions with the NZTA to agree on project objectives which formed the basis for the Council agreeing to join the Alliance.

“The set of objectives the Council has adopted were negotiated over several months with the NZTA and the others members of the Alliance. They provide the Council and the community with confidence their values will help to guide the Alliance’s decision and deliver outcomes that better meet the needs of the local community.

“We all look forward to the next milestone in the project which is the release of the initial design options for consultation in November,” said Ms Chetwynd.
