The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists of delays on State Highway 1 south of Hinds.
“Contractors resealing the highway had to reduce traffic to a single lane this afternoon, from Coldstream Road to just past Frisbys Road, because of problems with the bitumen being laid,” NZTA Southern Region State Highway Manager Colin Knaggs says.
“This resulted in delays of up to half an hour and a 30km/h speed restriction along about one kilometre of the highway.”
He says the problem was with the bitumen failing to set properly and further chip was needed to be applied to prevent damage to the road surface and to vehicles.
“The 30km/h speed restriction will remain in place overnight.”
Mr Knaggs says NZTA apologises for the delay as the works were remediated.
