Waka Kotahi will continue to closely monitor any changes in the state highway network around the Gisborne region following last week’s ex cyclone Hale.
Roading contractors returned to SH2 and SH35 earlier today to assess any further damage from last night’s heavy downpour.
Waka Kotahi’s system manager for Gisborne Martin Colditz says pleasingly the latest rain hasn’t seen any further major damage on the network.
“We drove much of the network earlier today to assess the areas most affected by last week’s deluge.”
“It was great to see no major issues as a result of the latest rain.
“That doesn’t mean we’re going to stop monitoring the road though as the already saturated ground could see further slips and subsidence,” says Mr Colditz.
“We will continue to have crews out keeping an eye on the damage to see if there are any changes.
“We’re also asking motorists to please be careful, be ready for anything they may encounter and please to let us know if they discover something, simply by calling 0800 4 HIGHWAYS.”
