The NZ Transport Agency has awarded a $112 million road maintenance contract for Northland that is set to improve the level and consistency of service to customers across the region.
The contract, effective from July 1, has been awarded to Fulton Hogan, the first time a single maintenance contract has been awarded for state highways in the region.
It covers the maintenance, operations and renewal work across 890km of state highways across Northland.
The Transport Agency’s Northland Highways Manager, Brett Gliddon, says the contract which is outcome-based, is focused on ensuring we spend our money at the right time, in the right place to continue providing the best customer journeys across Northland.
“This will result in a more seamless and consistent approach to maintenance and operations across the region. This will be especially beneficial during emergency events when seamless responses and co-ordination are critical.”
“A single contractor will also be able to better co-ordinate multiple activities in one area at the same time, ensuring we’re not on site doing one job one week and then back a few weeks later to do something different. More work will also be scheduled at night and this will mean less disruption, fewer queues and a smoother experience through our work sites”.
Fulton Hogan has held the contract for maintenance works from Whangarei north for the past four years.

The contract, which is based on a Network Outcomes model is being adopted by the NZ Transport Agency across the country. This is the eighth such contract to be awarded.
