The Manawatu Gorge was reopened to motorists this afternoon after a number of landslips today closed the road.
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) said that the Manawatu Gorge had reopened by 2.30pm but advised motorists to exercise caution.
NZTA acting State Highways Manager David McGonigal said the road may be down to one-lane only in areas as crews worked to clear the slips completely.
“We are keeping an eye on the weather and monitoring conditions.”
The latest information on the road closure and conditions was available at www.highwayinfo.govt.nz(external link) or by phoning 0800 4 HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49).
Mr McGonigal thanked motorists for their patience.
