Lower North Island/Upper South Island - Planned state highway roadworks

Important information for drivers:

Labour Weekend Holiday:

  • It is a holiday weekend, and drivers can expect to see more traffic on the roads. Congestion can be expected in and out of  main urban centres on Friday and Monday. Drivers are encouraged to use the NZTA/Waka Kotahi holiday journey planner so they can avoid peak travel times and avoid holiday traffic queues. Please drive safely on the roads this weekend.

Lower North Island:

  • Drivers travelling between the Wellington CBD and the Miramar peninsula need to plan for nighttime roadworks at  the intersection of Kilbirnie Crescent, State Highway 1 and Hamilton Road next week.
  • Kilbirnie traffic lights – State Highway 1 works planned(external link)
  • Emergency works to repair an underslip on State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill continue. Drivers need to be aware of a change to the Labour Day weekend schedule -  the route will remain open under stop/go on Sunday night (27 October). Planned closures will resume Monday night.
